There is a chance of winning a scholarship to pursue further studies in the Russian Federation. Scholarships are normally distributed to the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda, the Russian Embassy and to Soyuzonline. These scholarships through the Russian Embassy are now limited to 15 applicants every year, which makes it practically impossible for many desiring applicants to acquire one.
This time round, a new system has been introduced whereby, interested students participate in a contest/competition and the best students are awarded the scholarships. Starting with the year 2014 eight (8) students were awarded scholarships after a Mathematics competition that was held at Makerere University. These students, who proved to be the lucky Mathematicians travelled to Moscow end of August 2014 to continue with their University education starting 1-st of September, 2014.
However, in 2015, 2016 and 2017 no contest was held due reasons unknown. Contests resumed in 2018 and they are conducted by the Russian EMBASSY in Uganda with the guidance of Rossotrudnichestvo (Scholarship Awarding Committee of the Russian Federation).
How to participate in the programme
In order to participate in the programme, interested persons should frequently visit the Russian Embassy website (for the Embassy in Uganda) for latest updates. These updates are normally posted in February of every year and the announcement runs until the competition takes place. Alternatively, the applicant can opt to contact Soyuzonline (U) in advance to learn more on how to secure a scholarship through their Scholarship programme with various Universities in the Russian Federation. To contact Soyuzonline (U) please contact them on 0772-334090 OR 0751-002431
Another alternative would be to check at the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Republic of Uganda for available study scholarships. There are normally a wide range of scholarships for various countries.
